WordPress 4.9.7

On July 5, the security and maintenance release 4.9.7 was released by the security team – the 4.9.7 version planned for the end of July is now 4.9.8. The release fixes a security issue that allows users with specific capabilities to delete files outside the uploads folder.

Among that, the new version fixes a few bugs. You can find out more on that in the post »WordPress 4.9.7 Security and Maintenance Release« by Aaron D. Campbell.

Update on Gutenberg

Tammie Lister published the post »Update on Gutenberg«, where she outlines the current things that are in progress and the planned things for Gutenberg with the endpoint of releasing it in WordPress 5.0.

So, for example, it is planned to release a 4.9.x release in July where users are invited to install Gutenberg or the Classic Editor plugin.

WP-CLI Hack Day

The WP-CLI team plans a hack day on Friday, July 20, starting at 08:00 CEST to 18:00. Alain Schlesser will be generally available in the slack channel and the GitHub organization to help onboarding, finding issues, et cetera.

From 16:00 to 18:00, there will be a video chat to discuss remaining issues and chat about the progress. The goal is to finish the day with 20 merged pull requests during the event. More on that can be found in the post »WP-CLI Hack Day« by Alain Schlesser.
