A little later than usual, because of the great WordCamp Retreat in Soltau: the WordPress weekly recap. Last week, the theme review team announced its program for trusted authors.

JavaScript internationalization
Currently, there is no easy way to make strings from JavaScript files translatable in WordPress. There is no inbuilt way to scan JS files for strings or to load the translations. As Pascal Birchler writes in his post »JavaScript Internationalization: The Missing Pieces«, there are a few things missing to get JS internationalization into WordPress, which gets more important with Gutenberg.
The missing parts are (quoted from his post):
- Scanning JavaScript files for internationalization functions
- Loading only specific set of translations
- Easily load translations
You can find much more info on the topic in Pascal’s post, and if you are interested in discussing it: there is also info on a new JS internationalization meeting.
Misc
- »Dev Chat Summary: May 2nd (4.9.6 week 5)«. Among other things, there was a discussion on where to place the menu items for the new privacy tools. The decision was made to place the privacy page menu item as the last child of the »Settings« menu; the links to the erase and export tools remain under tools.
- »WordPress 4.9.6 Beta«.
- Gutenberg 2.8.

Trusted Authors Program
The theme review team decided to create a Trusted Author Program. This »is an attempt to streamline the review process for authors who are consistently able to show they can to produce high quality code and themes that are in line with the current guidelines«, as the user acosmin writes in his post »Trusted Authors Program«.
Themes from authors that are part of the program will be automatically approved, and they will be able to upload new themes more often (every two weeks instead of once a month).
